It's good to be back.
I began The Dylan Samson Mix Series when I was a sophomore in college. I had learned about tape culture, and the idea of sharing music with other people, in the form of ultra-personalized mixes really appealed to me. Plus, drawing cover art was a really great way to pass the time in dull lectures.
So whenever I made a mix, it became part of the series. Some were given to friends as gifts. Others were used as mixes for radio shows. A bunch were conceptualized, but never actually made. A large amount though were made, and simply left around for others to find.
I eventually retired the series, not having nearly enough time to devote to it. I still, realistically, don't have nearly enough time to devote to this, but regardless, I figure now is as good a time as ever to bring it back.
So what can you expect from one of these mixes? Well, honestly not to much. There's never really a theme to each mix, nor a message I'm trying to get across. All they'll be is music I currently am enjoying, or think goes well with the other music on the mix, all sequenced in a way that sounds good. The only thing you should safely expect is plenty of LCD Soundsystem.
I will release a new volume in the series at least once a month, and will place one copy of the CD, in a hand-made, custom case, somewhere around New York City (or whatever city I happen to be in at the time). I will post the location online (on this site, on twitter, and on Facebook, and the first person to grab it gets to keep it. I'll be leaving these CDs for free, in the hopes that those who come across them will enjoy the music they hold.
